Our year 5 and 6 production this year was Bugsy, the children really worked hard to make it an absolutely fantastic performance. The singing was brilliant and the costumes and scenery helped bring the stage to life.

Exhibition Evening

It was lovely to see so many people attending our Exhibition Evening last night. The children are very proud of their acheivements this year. The school reflected this with fantastic displays of their work around the school walls and the children's Best Work Books filled with the pieces of work they are most proud of. Thank you to all that attending.

Year 1 and 2 Multimedia project

Year one and two have been very busy this week completing their seaside stories project. First they created a class story, then they acted out the different scenes from their story. Digital photos were taken of the scenes and the children used 2paint to create the scenery and characters, leaving their own faces visible. (they became the characters) We recorded the story using Audacity and put the whole project together in Movie maker. We hope you enjoy watching our stories.

Competition Winners

Book week was a great success last week. All the children put lots of effort into their fantastic costumes and our competition produced a winner in each class.

Kirk for his great Joker costume.
Dylan for his wonderful Umpa Lumpa outfit.
Jack and George for their great join idea for 118 118.
Lizzie for Jacqueline Wilson's Lizzie Zipmouth.
Sam looked wonderful as Captain Underpants.
Scarlet made a fantastic Violet Beauregarde, a character from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Johna made a great Handa from Handa's Surprise.
Jack was a very smart Tintin.
Noah looked very cute as Peter Rabit.
Angelina Ballerina was portrayed by Anna.

Well done to everyone that dressed up, you all looked wonderful.

Book Week part two

Today the children all came to school dressed up as their favourite book character and they all looked amazing with character including The Artful Dodger, 118 118, Big, witches, rabbits, The Incredible Hulk, Horrid Henry to name but a few. A winning character from each class will be announced during assembly.

Key stage one are creating a multimedia photostory this week and class one are starting their pictures as I Blog. The children from class 6 have come along to support the younger pupils with their drawings. The room is buzzing with excitement with fantastic images on all the computer screens.

This afternoon Wizard Stories are visiting all the classes.

Book Week 2009

Well, we are off to a fantastic start with a visit from an author, Jack Trelawny and Mrs Crichlow telling wonderful stories from her home country Trinidad and Tabago.

Mr Trelawny shared with the children how he starts creating his stories and how images can be used to create stories by asking questions about them. The children were surprised that he had to research things before writing about them. Lydia said "I would definately research before writing a story so that my story would be accurate."

Geraldine commented "I think Mr Trelawny's ideas about asking questions about pictures will really help me to improve my stories."

Class 1, 2 and 3 had a lovely time outside listening to Mrs Crichlow reading poetry and a story from the Caribean. They enjoyed how Mrs Crichlow told the story with great enthusiasm. The Lola commented "She read with happiness in her voice." Ben said " I liked how she used her accent to tell the story"

Here comes Summer

The summer term has begun and looks to be a very exciting time for all at Wells Primary. This week is science week and all the children are excited about the many different activities and experiences they will be having during this week. Caterpillars arrived in school on Wednesday last week and my, my they are growing very quickly. We will be observing their progress throughout this week and hopefully releasing some beautiful butterflys very soon.

At the end of the day today we had a special arrival of some eggs. They are being kept nice and warm in the incubator and we should be expecting the pitter patter of little feet by Wednesday. We will be posting some images and hopefully some video of our new arrivals so please come back and check the blogs later in the week.

First thing in the morning class 3 will be gaining some extra members in the shape of some fish donated by a very supportive local business called Woodford Aquatics.

We have some very special visitors in school tomorrow, our playground will become the home for some farm animals for the day. The children are extremely excited about this and we are hoping the rain will hold off for the day so the animals will enjoy it as much as the children.

Welcome Back

We are all looking forward to another exciting half term and hope you all had a very relaxing break and are ready for some exciting learning.

We are returning to school just in time for a Pancake Day, which falls on the 24th February, tomorrow. If you are wondering what Pancake Day is all about click here to find out PANCAKES.

Spring Term

We have had a very good start to the spring term, with all the children showing how eager they are to learn and work hard.

KS1 held an African market in the hall last week which was very successful. Children from all the year groups brought in African objects such as clothes, money and artifacts to share with each other. They enjoyed trying on the different clothes and looking at the different fruits and vegetables on display.

Lower KS2 have been making Roman bread.
The school smelt lovely whilst the bread was
baking and the children really enjoyed tasting the finished product.

Upper KS2 have been learning about the solar system and beyond, the children become the different planets to understand how the planets orbit each other. Their topic this term is Africa and they enjoyed sharing their learning with KS1 during the African market.

At this time of year in school it is very exciting, nativity productions, carol services, pantomines and parties and that is without all the fantastic learning the children are doing.

As we recieve many requests for photos from the performances in the past and this year I will endevour to post on our blog flickr account some of the school pictures. Please be assured that no names will every be added to the photographs, this will allow you to save and print your chosen pictures at home.

We have recently registered with a website called "The Giving Machine", the website is a place where we can raise extra funds for the school through donations from High Street shops. To support us all you have to do is register (simply give your email address and name), choose Wells Primary as your chosen beneficiary and shop online through the WWW.thegivingmachine.co.uk site. For each transaction made through this site our school will receive a small cash donation from the retailer. Flyers will be distributed shortly and hopefully with Christmas very near and people choosing to shop online more frequently we will raise some extra funds for our children.
